Liverpool

Whenever I get misty eyed about Liverpool, I think of "Ferry 'cross the Mersey" the old Gerry and the Pacemakers hit song.

I scammed this pic from the Liverpool Echo site.  A lot of the pic's I'm using here are ones from there, until I can get my own pics scanned.  The last visit we had to Liverpool was back in 1993, when we went to visit the relly's.

We were lucky when we went to the Pier Head, the Queens ship was in port for the 50th Anniversary of the bombing of Liverpool, so if I can scan the pic's they'll appear here too.

Okay, I surrender, here's a pic of the Beatles.  What page on Liverpool wouldn't be complete without them?  Although I was never a big fan ~ hey I'll be honest ~ I detest the Beatles!

I was always a bigger Gerry and the Pacemakers and Animals and Mannfred Mann fan!

And I have to say that IMHO the only two with any talent were Ringo and George!  Ok...maybe McCartney and Lennon had talent but they were also a PITA!

Ah well, each to their own.

One thing I will give them tho' is the fact that they put Mersey beat into almost everyone's mind during the sixties, and atleast they were better the the Stones! Guess I'm really putting the cat amongst the pigeons here, eh? **mega grin**

Welcome to Anfield, the home of the greatest Football/Soccer team ever!

This pic was taken sometime in the last year or so, but the last time I was there circa 1979, there were high fences surrounding the pitch.

LIVERPOOL FC !!!

Thankfully since the Sheffield Stadium tragedy, things have changed dramatically at Anfield.

My cousin Jon Paul Gilhooley died at Sheffield in the crush, and my cousin Colin was one of the survivor's.  Neither were 'hooligans' who deserved what they got......Jon Paul was only 10 years old - and Colin was only in his late teens.  Both were fans and supporters of the team, and only went to games to see good football, as did all those killed.

A few years ago here in Oz, they considered erecting fences around the football grounds, I'm thankful to say that never happened, as my brother Paul frequently went to matches, and I would have hated to see a similar tragedy here in Australia.
